The role of microbiota alterations in Rett syndrome (RTT) is discussed here. By studying the intestinal microbiota in RTT courts, a less rich microbial community was identified associated with alterations in SCFA. These changes were positively correlated with severe clinical outcomes. In fact, these microbial metabolites may play a crucial role both locally and systemically (affecting also gene expression in many organs).
