PANS are a group of autoimmune disorders related to a previous or current infection acquired during childhood. The PANDAS subgroup includes those related to infections by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus.
They are characterized by various neuropsychiatric and neurological manifestations with onset in both childhood and adolescence, especially behavioral and movement disorders, with tic manifestations. The possible beneficial effects of supportive therapy with prebiotics (Serplus) were evaluated. 20 cases between 5-15 years of age with PANDAS/PANS and subjected to antibiotic therapy with Serplus integration + 15 controls without supplement.
Reduction of symptom prevalence in patients treated with Serplus. Attenuation of obsessive compulsive symptoms in 67.6% of cases compared to controls.
