Most neurogenetic disorders can be classified as rare diseases. Here, 8 well-known neurogenetic disorders are selected: Down syndrome, Angelman syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, Smith-Magenis syndrome, congenital central hypoventilation syndrome, achondroplasia, mucopolysaccharidosis, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Sleep disorders are prevalent in children with these disorders and have a significant impact on the quality of life of the patient and the caregiver and, if identified, are often treatable. In these patients, untreated sleep disorders can lead to worsening of neurocognitive and behavioral manifestations.
Early treatment may also prolong survival or prevent the development of sequelae or comorbidities.
