The relationship between gastrointestinal disorders and sleep disturbances in children with ASD is examined. In particular, it is examined whether gastrointestinal dysfunction increases the likelihood of having sleep disturbances in 610 children with ASD aged 2-18 years. Early diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders in ASD may be a means to reduce the prevalence and severity of sleep problems and improve quality of life and developmental outcomes in this population.
