The gut-brain axis theory proposes that the gut microbiota can influence brain function in multiple ways. Aim: To investigate the gut microbiota in children with ADHD and evaluate the possible role of the microbiota in the pathogenesis of the disease to open new avenues for the treatment of the disease; 17 children aged 6-12 years with ADHD and 17 healthy controls. Fecal samples analyzed by metagenomic sequencing and metabolic pathway analysis. Significant differences were detected between groups in the metabolic pathways of neurotransmitters (e.g. serotonin and dopamine).
