A predictive index for health status using species-level gut microbiome profiling

Here we present the GMHI (gut microbiome health Index), a biologically interpretable mathematical formula for predicting disease probability independent of clinical diagnosis. GMHI is formulated on 50 microbial species associated with healthy gut ecosystems.

These species are identified through an integrative multi-study analysis of 4347 human stool metagenomes, gives 34 published studies on healthy conditions and 12 different unhealthy conditions (disease or abnormal body weight). is the most robust and consistent predictor of presence or absence of disease compared to α diversity indices.
